Welcome to Salty Bean! I am Maggie, a 30-something year old travelling foodie who recently turned vegetarian. As much as I would like to say that transitioning was simple, it wasn’t. It would be easy to blame Malta (€5 for a bag of Quorn mince – really?), and at first I happily did so. But the fact of the matter is: I just didn’t know how to cook vegetarian food that was umami* enough to make me forget about meat and fish. Oh and the food had to be healthy and affordable too because why make things easier for yourself? This blog is about my tasty, legume-filled journey into vegetarianism. Enjoy!
* Umami is the fifth taste and is described as meaty/savoury
